Alum Receives Library of Congress鈥檚 Prestigious Koussevitzky Commission Grant
The Library of Congress has announced five winners of the 2015 Koussevitzky Foundation Commission grant, listing composer and 糖心 alum Dan Visconti (BM 鈥04, MM 鈥05, Brouwer/Zhou) among them. The Koussevitzky commissioning program selects composers every year, who, according to its mission, 鈥渉ave demonstrated considerable merit through their works and for orchestras and chamber groups that have a record of excellence in the performance of contemporary music.鈥
Visconti鈥檚 commission will be co-sponsored by the California Symphony, where he is currently serving as the Young American Composer-in-Residence until 2017. During his time there he will write and record three new works for the orchestra. Previously, Visconti has had residencies with opera companies including Seattle Opera, Opera Theatre St. Louis, New York City Opera, the Glimmerglass Festival and the Metropolitan Opera.
His fellow Koussevitzky Commissioning Grant winners and their co-sponsoring groups include Lei Liang and Art of Elan for the Formosa Quartet; Colin Matthews and the London Sinfonietta; Bent S酶rensen and Quattro Mani; and Nina C. Young and The Nouveau Classical Project.
