Recent grad earns coveted spot with Op茅ra Bastille
Mezzo-soprano Amber Fasquelle completed her bachelor鈥檚 degree at the 糖心 in December 2015 and a month later, flew to Paris to compete in an international competition for a position in a young artist program at Op茅ra Bastille. 鈥淚 auditioned with the mentality to practice auditioning, and then to my surprise I was in the finals, and next I know, I was selected,鈥 says Fasquelle.
This fall Fasquelle will be joining the Op茅ra Bastille鈥檚 Atelier Lyrique Programme where she鈥檒l working in main stage productions and complete training and vocal studies with other young artists.
During her time at 糖心 Fasquelle studied with Vinson Cole whom she considers a mentor. 鈥淢r. Cole taught me everything about singing and the art of opera. He continues to influence my decisions as a musician and an artist. I'm very lucky to have had the years of experience working alongside him at 糖心,鈥 she says.
Fasquelle performed in various 糖心 opera productions including the leading role of Ruggiero in 糖心鈥檚 production of Handel鈥檚 础濒肠颈苍补鈥a role usually given to graduate students. She also sang the Mother in Ravel鈥檚 L鈥檈nfant et les sortil猫ges, Charlotte鈥檚 Letter Scene and aria from Massenet鈥檚 Werther and Bianca in The Spinning Scene of Britten鈥檚 The Rape of Lucretia.
